JGI Belgium has selected different on-going JGI Projects which are real vectors of hope for the local communities involved. Wherever possible, we would like to link our local activities in Belgium to these Projects of Hope abroad. It often works as an eye-opener to what is happening elsewhere in the world, how close we are to other people, and how much such projects can mean for a community. We invite you to have a look at these wonderful projects and select those you wish to support. With your generous contribution, amazing things will be achieved.
Local Roots&Shoots groups in the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) already planted thousands of fruit trees in their efforts to reconnect two forests for the chimps – and other wildlife – to be able to migrate and to enlarge their genetic pool. This JGI reforestation project benefits both animals and local people involved in the protection of the park and working as eco-guides. Extra funds raised at our annual tree planting event are sent to this project, but you can also choose to support it directly.
Make a difference for a chimpanzee orphan at the JGI Tchimpounga orphanage, Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). While rescuing a chimpanzee – providing food and veterinarian care – one simultaneously offers a sustainable living for his/her local keeper working at the orphanage, and offers educational material to local R&S schools to prevent future bush meat hunting and illegal pet trading.
With the very unstable security situation in DRC, JGI and the local youth of R&S decided to bring a strong message of peace with basketball tournaments and concerts for peace. Combining sports with education and art the young people give their powerful answer to the escalating violence around them. The JGI DRC office links its community centered development and youth education, with chimpanzee protection.
