Because nature can't do it alone...

We believe everyone - big or small - can help
fight climate change, restore biodiversity
and protect animals.

Our tool to combat the climate crisis

Forests are home to a diversity of wildlife and serve as one of our greatest tools in combatting climate crisis. We have witnessed increasing natural disasters, the escalating consequences of lost forests.

Restoring and protecting green spaces is an essential part of protecting biodiversity. It is also one of our greatest hopes in combatting the climate crisis. We are helping restore nature both in Belgium and in Africa.

Protecting chimpanzees

Chimpanzees are at the heart of what we do. They are one of the five species of great apes, alongside gorillas, orangutans, bonobos and ourselves. Sharing more than 98% of our DNA, chimpanzees are closest to humans.

Chimpanzee population has declined dramatically. From 1 million chimpanzees a century ago there are only 340,000 living in the wild today with a threat of facing extinction. This is largely due to habitat loss resulting from deforestation, killings and kidnappings of chimps for illegal trade, and human/chimpanzee conflict as well as zoonotic diseases.

Roots & Shoots

Roots & Shoots is a worldwide movement empowering young people to live sustainable lifestyles and influence those around them to do the same. It fosters respect and compassion for all living things, promotes understanding of all cultures and beliefs and inspires each individual to take action to make the world a better place for people, other animals, and the environment.

About The Jane Goodall Institute

Dr. Jane Goodall first set foot in what is now known as Gombe Stream National Park in 1960 when she launched her pioneering research with wild chimpanzees. She was only 26 years old. Her research project was unlike any other and has taught us so much about our closest cousins in the animal kingdom.

Your donation will be used to restore nature in Belgium and Africa, and to help and protect chimpanzees. We believe it is important to be transparent about the impact of your donation. You can read a full overview in our annual report.
