Tanya Perez
Tanya Perez
President of the Board – tanya@janegoodall.be
Originally from Venezuela, Tanya is a chemical engineer with an MBA from the US. She worked in several corporate jobs, before taking on the best job in the world full-time: taking care of her three small boys. After the boys started to grow, as they often do, she looked for a new career, a more meaningful one. So in the spring 2015 she joined the JGI team as a volunteer Coordinator of Roots and Shoots Belgium hoping to help shape our youth to become respectful, empathic and aware of our impact in our planet and our society. Since then Tanya has gotten slowly more involved in JGI. Today she is the President of the JGI Board in Belgium as well as a Board Member of JGI Global. She loves reading, sports, animals, travelling and food.
Koen Margodt
Koen Margodt
Koen is an ethicist from education and working as a software trainer. As the passion for (animal) ethics remains, he has to live a double life! At Ghent University he did a Ph.D in philosophy on the moral status of great apes, which he is now turning into a book. He also gives guest lectures in animal ethics. He has been working with Jane Goodall to improve the lives of chimpanzees in captivity. He is a co-founder of the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium and was the previous president.
Meg Porter
Meg Porter
Administrator
Meg came to Belgium from Boston in 1992 thinking she’d “definitely stay just one year”;) Even before moving here, she had been concerned about ways to take care of the environment, each other, and those with whom we share this planet. Jane Goodall came to her school in Brussels and also spoke at the VUB. When they asked for volunteers, her work with JGI began and hasn’t stopped. Meg cherishes heart-to-heart talks and time with family and friends and loves to do anything that might positively influence the lives of others. She particularly enjoys the solace and sense of awe when surrounded by nature.
Heather Frenette
Heather Frenette
Treasurer – finance@janegoodall.be
Heather is an American who has lived in Belgium since 2011 teaching elementary special education. She has been passionate about primates for as long as she can remember. Heather followed all three Louis Leakey ladies throughout her childhood and loved reading their news articles and hearing the wonderful stories of how the great apes were so like us. The day she met Jane Goodall for the first time was a life altering event. That is when it became real that she too could make a difference in the lives of chimpanzees. Heather joined the Jane Goodall Institute as a volunteer in 2012 and has been the treasurer and a member of the board of the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium since March 2018.
Liesl Weber
Liesl Weber
Born in South Africa, Liesl’s passions are animals, nature, travelling and kindness. She is inspired by organizations, groups or individuals conserving the natural world we all share. This is why she jumped at the opportunity to be part of the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium Board in March 2018. She gets her energy from finding resolutions to issues and will use her 30 years experience in the communications field to support JGI and all it represents. Her favourite Jane Goodall quote is: Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.
