In an effort to celebrate and grow understanding of chimpanzees as unique, inherently important and as our closest living relatives, a group of organizations is leading the charge through the second World Chimpanzee Day to be held on July 14, 2019!
World Chimpanzee Day (WCD) is a celebration of these incredible beings and an opportunity to raise awareness about the vital need for worldwide participation in their care, protection and conservation in the wild and in captivity.
Goals of World Chimpanzee Day:
- Celebrate our closest living relative in the animal kingdom;
- Share understanding and inspire action by educating global audiences about their uniqueness, importance and similarities to humans;
- Raise awareness about threats they face in the wild including habitat loss, disease, and wildlife trafficking and promote their proper care in captive situations.
