Forest in One Day Genk: on 5 March 2023 Genk will become greener

The Jane Goodall Institute’s annual tree-planting campaign, Forest in One Day, will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2023. The city of Genk and Jane Goodall Institute Belgium will work together to plant more than 3500 trees. Quite the task, and any assistance is appreciated!

From 10 am to 4 pm, you are welcome to attend and assist with planting. The more excitement (and boots), the less experience is needed. We enlist the help of Sylva Nova, a true expert with a passion for forests, to oversee all of this planting. There will be volunteers from the Jane Goodall Institute and the City of Genk.

Hot drinks, food, as well as kid-friendly entertainment and information booths from the collaborating partners, will be available during this Forest in One Day to ensure that the volunteers are not left out in the cold.

The Jane Goodall Institute Belgium is helping to plant trees as part of its assistance for reforestation efforts in Burundi, where the organization has previously planted more than 4.8 million trees since 2006. In collaboration with the local inhabitants, several dozen trees are planted in Burundi for every tree in Genk.

The tree planting event will take place near Koebaan nr. 36. Parking is available at these locations:

  • at sports school Muay-Thai (Trichterweg 27, Genk)
  • at Bregel sport (Meistraat, Genk)
  • at the church (Sledderlo 37, Genk)
