On Saturday the 17th of February 2024, around 100 people came to plant 2.000 trees in Gooik with us. Several youth groups accompanied our volunteers to plant a new forest such as Gooik Chiro and TADAs childrens (ToekomstAtelierDel’Avenir). We were lucky, the sun warmed us up nicely, and the conditions were perfect for planting.
Young people from TADA learned a lot about the importance of planting trees and the role of biodiversity in the forest, by discovering earthworms in particular. They don’t often get their feet in the mud, but they planted very well and were proud of their work in the end.
We hope this has inspired them to protect the natural world around them, and to enjoy it more by taking more walks, for example.
A couple of weeks before we also gave workshops in the local school to teach the children about the importance of trees and forests. Some of the kids came to the event and were really excited to plant trees with us!
Our tree planting partner De Bosgroepen provided an array of young trees, among which oak, hazel, birch and linden. They prepared the lot beautifully, which made planting super easy. The 2.000 trees were planted in record time!
Once again a big thank you to all our volunteers and young participants. We hope to see you again soon in Deinze on the 17th of March for our biggest tree planting of the season!
